Itinerary
-
You'll arrive in Colombo and your tour guide meets you at the airport for the drive to your hotel. Later this evening, join the group for a welcome dinner with Sri Lankan cuisine to start things off.
-
Drive to Dambulla this morning and visit the Cave Temple with its ancient carvings and statues. After lunch at a local restaurant, check in at your hotel and you can relax by the pool. Then head out for an evening hike up to Pidurangala Buddhist Monastery, where you'll get 360-degree views of the landscape and watch the sunset over Sigiriya.
-
Start early and climb Sigiriya, the ancient rock fortress that's over 1500 years old. Once you're done, sit down for a great Sri Lankan lunch with a local family. The rest of your day is open, so relax by the pool or book some optional activities if you're interested.
-
Travel through the Knuckle Mountain Range and stop at a spice garden where you'll learn how Sri Lankan cooking actually works. From there, continue on to Kandy, Sri Lanka's second-largest city, and get around by tuk-tuk to see what it has to offer. By evening, visit the Temple of the Tooth before settling in for the night.
-
Head to the tea country and tour a working tea estate where you'll pick tea leaves yourself and taste some premium Ceylon tea. After lunch, travel by bus to Nanu Oya and board the scenic train to Ella, which takes you through some really nice mountain scenery.
-
You have the full day in Ella, the mountainous town where you can do whatever suits you best. Relax by the pool, book a massage, or explore some of the optional hiking trails in the area if you're up for it.
-
Early morning hike up Little Adam's Peak, then visit the Nine Arch Bridge after. Later you'll leave the mountains and travel to Udawalawe National Park with a lunch stop on the way. Finish the day on safari where you'll see elephants up close.
-
Leave the campsite and head down to the beach at Mirissa. You'll have the afternoon free to surf, swim, or just sit on the sand. As evening comes around, head to Coconut Tree Hill to catch the sunset.
-
Take the day to relax and wander around Mirissa at your own pace. This beach town has plenty to see and do whenever you feel like checking it out.
-
Start with a 12km bike ride through the paddy fields in the south, and you'll stop at a local school along the way. Spend the afternoon walking through the old Dutch Fort in Galle, picking up some souvenirs, and trying some good ice cream. The rest of the day is yours to relax.
-
Spend your morning on the beach, then visit the 2004 Tsunami Memorial. After that, head to the Madu River for a boat trip through the mangrove forests where you can see birds and fishing villages. In the evening, drive to Colombo for your final night.
-
Your tour ends today. Your guide can help arrange any onward travel if you need it. You'll have the rest of the day free before you depart.
